Templar Assassin Guide — Best Build, Talents, Matchups, and Tips In Dota 2
Templar Assassin is one of the fastest farming carries in Dota 2 and a hero that can single-handedly take over games when played correctly. At PGL Wallachia Season 7, she posted a 100% win rate over 10 matches, with her counter picks either nerfed out of the meta or completely absent. If you want to climb MMR faster while learning her, Goranked has Dota 2 accounts and boosting services available.

Why Templar Assassin Is Strong Right Now
The main reason TA dominates right now is simple — her counter picks are weak or out of the meta entirely. Pro player Roman "RAMZES" Kushnaryov put it bluntly: the only hero that's genuinely good against her is Terrorblade, and even he isn't in great shape. Phantom Lancer and Morphling are both out of the picture. Most carry matchups right now just don't threaten her.
Strengths:
Farms extremely fast using Psi Blades to hit multiple units simultaneously.
Can stack and farm ancients early, accelerating her gold income significantly
Takes objectives quickly — Roshan, Tormentor, outer towers.
Aghanim's Shard adds silence on trap explosions, a strong teamfight tool.
Sees the exact Roshan respawn timer
Item build barely changes game to game — very consistent to execute
Can split push out of a base siege using Aghanim's Scepter
Weaknesses:
Vulnerable to control that goes through BKB
Crimson Guard bought early, shutting her down hard.
Sand King and Batrider — stun plus heavy magic damage is a real problem.
Strong laners like Huskar, Viper, and Batrider make the lane rough.
Illusion heroes can strip Refraction charges quickly.
TA Stats At PGL Wallachia S7
The numbers from the tournament speak for themselves. Over two days and 60 matches, Templar Assassin had a 15% pick rate and was banned in 20 out of those 60 games — mostly in the first ban phase. In the 10 matches she actually played, the win rate sat at 100%.
In 8 out of 10 games, she was picked in the second draft phase, often before the enemy team revealed their carry. She was matched against Sven, Abaddon, Razor, and similar heroes — none of which threatened her.
The average GPM across all 10 games was around 820. The highest individual performance came from Alimzhan "Watson" Islambekov of Team Yandex — 907 GPM and 975 XPM in a single game.
Item Build
The core build on Templar Assassin has stayed the same for years, which tells you everything about how well it works. Starting items set up your laning phase, core items define your power spike, and situational picks round out whatever the specific game demands.
Starting Items
Magic Wand and Faerie Fire are the standard pro opening. Spend the remaining 75 gold on an Iron Branch or a second Faerie Fire. This setup gets TA to 59-60 damage at level 1, which is enough for comfortable last hitting.
Core Every Game
Power Treads — attack speed and mobility
Falcon Blade — early stats and mana regen
Desolator — core damage item, enables early objective taking.
Blink Dagger — positioning and initiation
Daedalus — damage ceiling, crit amplifies everything.
Situational Items
The consistent build across most games: Wand, Power Treads, Falcon Blade, Desolator. Then Dragon Lance into Blink Dagger. Close out with Hurricane Pike, Daedalus, and BKB or Linken's, depending on what you're facing.

Ability Leveling And Facet
TA's skill build barely changes between games, which is one of the reasons she's so consistent to play. There's no real decision-making on the facet either — one option is clearly stronger than the rest right now.
Facet
Refractor is the only real choice right now. It's too strong for farming and lane presence. Voidblades doesn't work without Meld, which you're not even leveling until level 10. Hidden Reach doesn't fit a carry playstyle at all.
Standard Skill Build
Levels 1–5: 3-0-2 (Refraction and Psi Blades priority, skip Meld)
Level 6: take ultimate
After that: max Refraction, then Psi Blades, Meld last
Exception: Taking Meld at level 1 is viable if you want to punish the offlaner hard in lane. Don't go for runes — instead position just outside your tier 1 tower, wait for creeps, and hit the enemy once, then immediately Meld again. Offlaners usually have low armor, and hitting under -4 armor hurts significantly.
Talents
How To Farm On TA
Templar Assassin's farming pattern is one of the most efficient in Dota 2. The basic loop is pushing the lane and immediately farming nearby neutral camps on the way back. This lets her protect towers while simultaneously stacking ancients — something very few carries can do simultaneously.
If the enemy breaks your tier 1 tower early, don't fight over it. Drop back and farm the lane plus the water camps instead. Another option is farming ancients in the safe lane "jungle two" position, alternating with side camps nearby.
Psionic Traps also speed up farming — two fully charged traps kill an entire creep wave. At max ultimate level with Aghanim's Shard, you have 15 traps available, which means you can pre-place them across multiple lanes simultaneously.
Who To Pick With TA
Lane Supports: Pugna, Jakiro, Warlock, Ancient Apparition, Chen — all stack well and have slows or zoning tools that complement TA's passive laning style.
Mid-Game Cores: Slardar, Shadow Fiend, Lycan, Beastmaster — all buff TA's damage output through armor reduction, auras, or tempo pressure.

Matchups
Good Against
Techies, Keeper of the Light, Sven, Abaddon — low control, can't strip Refraction efficiently.
Slow farming carries: Faceless Void, Phantom Assassin, Slark, Ursa — TA outpaces them before they come online.
Bad Against
Illusion carries: Naga Siren, Phantom Lancer, Terrorblade — strip Refraction charges fast.
Dark Seer, Phoenix, Largo, Necrophos — strong utility that counters her tempo
Tips And Tricks
Psionic Trap true damage — trap attacks deal pure damage, bypassing armor entirely. You can also use traps to hit enemies outside your normal attack range.
Psi Blades through creeps — practice hitting enemy heroes through creep bodies in the lane. Spend a few minutes in a lobby, hitting a dummy through creeps before a game to get the feel for the angles.
Trap your farm zones — placing traps around your farming areas alerts you to incoming ganks and can save your life. Use every available trap charge.
Share trap control with teammates — go to the TAB menu, find Share Unit Control settings, and enable all four boxes in the Units column. Teammates can then use your traps if you're occupied elsewhere.
Meld works with Hurricane Pike — after activating Pike to push an enemy away, immediately use Meld and continue attacking. One of the follow-up attacks will apply the Meld armor reduction.
Double Meld — go invisible, wait for the Meld cooldown to reset, then attack once and immediately attack again through the refreshed Meld. This strips 16 armor at max level — extremely effective on Roshan, Tormentor, or tankier heroes.
Wave clear with traps — two fully charged traps delete one creep wave. Pre-place traps on multiple lanes when you have 15 available at max Scepter level to farm from across the map.
